What are Dental Implants?

Improve oral health with this long-term tooth replacement solution

Dental implants are replacement teeth designed to look and feel like a natural tooth or teeth. For dental implant surgery, your oral surgeon places a titanium implant post into the gum tissue where the tooth is missing. Because the implants are surgically inserted, they fuse to the jaw bone to create a solid and long-term foundation. They can replace a single tooth or multiple teeth and have a high success rate.

Removable dentures are cheaper upfront, but they do not fuse to the jaw bone or promote long-term oral health. They must also be replaced every few years and cleaned using special rinses. Dental implants become a permanent part of your smile and are cared for with regular brushing and flossing, just like natural teeth. Clean and healthy implants can prevent dental shifting and periodontal disease.

If a tooth has been missing for a long time, or there is not enough jaw bone to support the implant, our oral surgeons can place bone grafts to help new bone regrow in a weakened area.

Types of dental implants we offer

7x7 Dental Implant & Oral Surgery Specialists offers many types of dental implants in San Francisco. During the first visit, your oral surgeon will evaluate your oral health needs and determine the right type of treatment to restore your smile

  • Single tooth implants. A dental implant is made of a post, abutment, and crown. One implant can replace a single missing tooth, whether you’re in need of a front tooth, canine, or molar.
  • Multiple Implants. Several dental implants can replace missing teeth throughout the mouth as often as needed. This includes any type of tooth, and restores their function and appearance.
  • Same-day dental implants. On the same day as a tooth extraction, your oral surgeon can place the dental implant post, provided you have enough jaw bone to support it. This is also called immediate implant placement.
  • Full-arch restoration. As few as four dental implant posts can be inserted into one or both dental arches to support a permanent denture. This fixed prosthesis looks and functions like a natural, complete set of teeth, and restores confidence and appearance to your smile.
